Simple savings steps

Gas, car payments, housing, school, the kids, money is tight for many of us, but trying a few new things could save us some big bucks.

First, when grocery shopping, try sorting your items by what you need and what you want. When checking out, try and stick to your budget and only buy the want items that fall into that category.

Try using the app TheReceiptHog where you submit photos of your receipts and fill out surveys to collect coins. Those coins can then be redeemed through PayPal or on Amazon for real money.

Try the 52 week money challenge. Every week for a year you put in an extra dollar. The first week you put in one, then the following two, then the third three and so on. After 52 weeks you will have saved $1,378 without even realizing it.

Most people use their fives and ones in their wallets without even thinking about it. When you see small bills in your wallet, the extra cash doesn't seem like much so you don't mind spending it. Instead, try taking any extra small bills and putting them in an envelope or in your bank account and you will notice how much you will save over time.
