Bumble Bee Foods is recalling 31,579 cases of canned tuna due to a problem that could lead to contamination. The contamination could result in life-threatening illnesses if consumed.

The problems, which occurred in a contracted facility not operated by the company, could result in contamination of the tuna by spoilage organisms or pathogens. There are no current reports of illness, but the products were distributed nationally after being produced in February.

The recall includes the 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Oil, and the four-pack of 5-ounce Bumble Bee Chunk Light Tuna in Water.

People are advised to look at the can code and "best by" dates. Affected cans have a "T" at the beginning of the can code and have the following "best by" dates:

Chicken of the Sea announces recall for similar reason

Tri-Union Seafoods is voluntarily recalling a 2,745 cases, which is equal to 107,280 cans of Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce canned chunk light tuna in oil and 5-ounce canned chunk light tuna in water.

The product was recalled because the tuna may have been undercooked due to an equipment malfunction, which was uncovered during a routine inspection. These deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens, which could lead to life-threatening illness if consumed. There have been no reported illnesses to date connected with the affected products.

The specific products being recalled are as follows:

Chicken of the Sea 5 oz. Canned Chunk Light Tuna in Oil

Chicken of the Sea Brand 5 oz. canned chunk light tuna in oil sold at retailers nationwide in single cans between Feb. 10, 2016 and March 16, 2016.

The UPC code is 0 4800000195 5 and the "best by" date is Feb. 10, 2009.
