Publix named America's favorite grocery store

Lakeland-based grocery chain ties for no. 1 with Wegmans

LAKELAND, Fla. – It looks like shopping really is a pleasure at Publix.

The combination of the subs, free cookies and tear-jerking commercials has made Publix America's favorite grocery chain, according to a new study.

The study, conducted by Marketforce Information, shows the Lakeland-based grocery chain tied for No. 1 with Wegmans. In recent years, Publix had fallen to No. 2 behind the New York-based grocery chain.

Publix has been named to Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For every year since the list began. It is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the country.

When the stores were ranked by their specific attributes, Publix ranked first in four of seven categories: fast checkouts, availability of items, ease of finding items and store cleanliness.

The study surveyed over 12,700 shoppers in a cross-section of four U.S. census regions.
