Teacher accused of forcing student to eat from trash
Canadian teacher 'relieved of her duties' after incident in
A Canadian teacher has been "relieved of her duties" after allegedly forcing an 8-year-old girl to eat food from a garbage can.
The incident started when the third-grader threw away an old banana at a French Catholic school in Ontario.
Teacher Renee Oettershagen picked it out of the trash, ate a piece and then "instructed my granddaughter to eat the rest," the girl's grandmother, Ann Marie Stewart, told CHCH.
The teacher said she was trying to teach the girl not to waste food.
But the girl's mother, Jordan Stewart, isn't happy. She's pulled her children from the school, and the Children's Aid Society is now investigating.
Oettershagen, who already had a disciplinary hearing pending on another matter, has since been fired.
