St. Johns County charter school interim president resigns

First Coast Technical College under scrutiny for testing, HR, finances

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The newly-appointed interim president of First Coast Technical College, a charter school in St. Augustine, submitted her two-week notice Wednesday.

Renee Stauffacher was named interim president after President Sandra Fortner resigned last month.

In May, the board of FCTC suspended Fortner, along with two other administrators, amid allegations of $600,000 in unpaid bills, testing irregularities and issues with teacher qualifications.

The St. Johns County School district is investigating the allegations of irregularities in FCTC's administrative and reporting practices.

Stauffacher said she is taking another position in the area and feels comfortable with the way FCTC is moving forward from the financial issues.

FCTC provides technical, career and adult education. As a charter school, FCTC is part of the St. Johns County School District, but it has its own board of directors and operates autonomously.
