All-clear after suspicious package locked down Lake Lucina Elementary

Merrill Road blocked at Rogero Road while police investigate suspicious package at Lake Lucina Elementary School.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Students, faculty and staff of Lake Lucina Elementary School were allowed to return to campus Monday afternoon, about two hours after a suspicious package was found on the school's property, according to a Duval County Public Schools spokeswoman.

Police closed Merrill Road east of Rogero Road in front of the school while the bomb squad investigated the package.

The students and staff are being provided with water and lunch next door at St. Matthews Lutheran Church and walked back to their school about 1:30 p.m.

Parents were notified of the incident by automated calls and social media posts. They asked parents and guardians not to go to the school while police were investigating.

Duval County schools said after-school activities and dismissal procedures will occur as scheduled for all students.
