A Senate Republican on Thursday filed a proposal that seeks to prevent teachers and school administrators from retiring in the middle of an academic year.
The bill (SB 1500), filed by Sen. Debbie Mayfield, R-Vero Beach, will be considered during the legislative session that starts Tuesday.

It would direct the State Board of Education to approve rules barring teachers and administrators from selecting retirement dates during the regular school year.
It would include exceptions for retirements related to illnesses or disabilities.
