Senator asks Scott to launch grand jury investigation into FSCJ

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - State Sen. Steve Oelrich is asking Gov. Rick Scott to support his request to launch a grand jury investigation into the troubles at Florida State College at Jacksonville, according to a letter from Oelrich to Scott obtained by Channel 4.

"I am appalled that no one has been held accountable for the gross financial and operational mismanagement that continues to exist at Florida State College at Jacksonville," Oelrich writes. "While it is not your role to instruct the District Board of Trustees on how to vote on (FSCJ) President (Steven) Wallace's resignation and proposed $1.2 million exit contract, you are empowered to remove Trustees who fail to put the welfare of the College ahead of the personal wants and needs of one."

Wallace has opted to resign at the end of this year and will leave the college in 2014.

He came under fire after two audits of the college's finances and management structure and inappropriately granting more than $4 million of federal Pell grants to students.
