Council amends dancing, entertainment code

Wording of establishment ordinance changed

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville's City Council has voted to streamline their ordinance concerning strip clubs and bikini bars. During Tuesday night's City Council meeting the council voted to amend their dancing entertainment establishment code.

This became an issue after a bikini club attempted to start up on Baymeadows Road. The city denied the permit, which caused the developer to sue the city.

A federal judge ruled that the city's ordinance that regulates bikini bars was too broad. So, at the request of the city's general counsel they voted to make the wording of the ordinance more specific.

The developer who sued the city told Channel 4 he has no comment on the City Council's vote. The city's general counsel did tell Channel 4 that they can't comment on whether the vote will prohibit the bikini bar from going in on Baymeadows Road.
