'Swingin' with the Band' for a good cause

Douglas Anderson's Jazz Band 1 performs at the 2014 Swingin' with the Band

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A dinner dance next Saturday night featuring the award-winning jazz bands of Douglas Anderson School of the Arts is designed to be both a fun event and a fundraiser for the school's band program.

Latin, swing, swing, rock, and popular tunes will be performed by the school's jazz bands. Douglas Anderson's top jazz band has played in New York, Chicago and is headed at the end of the month to Savannah's Swing Central jazz competition. After the catered dinner, action heats up on the dance floor.

"It's a great couples night out for singles, a date night for married people," said Ace Martin, who directs the jazz band and is head of Douglas Anderson's instrumental music program. "A great night of entertainment and socializing."

There'll also be a silent auction with many travel and entertainment items.

"It's very important because we fund guest artists, we fund going on trips, we fund necessary things for music over and beyond what the district can do for us," Martin said.

"Swingin' with the Band," is next Saturday evening, March 14, at the Bank of America campus on Southside Boulevard. Tickets are $40 and are only available through Saturday either online or by calling the school at 904-346-5620 ext. 191.Â
