Toy Hall of Fame finalists

12 toys among nominees for honor

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Many toys you may have played with as a kid are up for a top honor. 12 toys are up for induction in the National Toy Hall of Fame.

The nominees include the spinning top, coloring book, Wiffle Ball and puppet.

Those toys will compete against American Girl dolls, Battleship, Jenga, PLAYMOBIL, the scooter, Super Soaker, Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles and Twister.

Two toys will get the honor and will be inducted on Nov. 5.

To be considered, the toy must meet certain criteria. It must have survived multiple generations. It also must be widely recognized. Finally, it must foster learning, discovery and creativity through play.

Historians and curators at the Strong museum chose the finalists. The judge's panel is made up of inventors, psychologists, educators and others.

Previous inductees include the Frisbee, the Barbie and the Rubik's Cube.
