JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - This year's Jacksonville Light Parade will be held Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. in partnership with private organizations and local supporters, similar to the 2011 event, the city announced Friday.

The city is inviting boat captains and crews to register for the parade. Registration is free; however, it is limited to the first 100 vessels.

The parade is a river tradition that highlights festively decorated vessels of all shapes and sizes as they parade along the St. Johns River through downtown Jacksonville.

"I applaud the civic-minded individuals who are supporting this long-standing tradition," Mayor Alvin Brown said in a news release. "The call for boaters is officially open."

Partners involved in coordinating the event include the city of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Landing, the Freedom Boat Club, Visit Jacksonville, Downtown Vision Inc., and the Jacksonville Marine Association.

Boaters interested in participating can visit www.makeascenedowntown.com for registration information.
