It's the end of the year and the start of a new one. The last few weeks, it's very likely you've been completely focused on your kids and extended family.  Now it's time to think about you and your health.

Bow is a good time to think about the health tests or checkups you may need next year.  Dr. Holly Thacker, an expert on women's health at Cleveland Clinic, says women should, at the very least, get in to see their doctor.

"All women at least need to try to see their health provider once a year and get their blood pressure checked and find out what their risk assessment is and what's important for them at their age and stage in life," Thacker advised.

Recommendations include a pap smear and a yearly mammogram if you're over 40. If you haven't had your cholesterol checked in a while, you may want to add that to the list.

Also, if you did not have your eyes checked last year, you may be due for an exam.  And a skin check is also something to consider, especially if you're over 40.

Thacker says you can think of a physical, or your list of things to do, as your annual preventive health care check.

"It is good to see that you've met all of your health requirements, that you're being proactive, and that you're setting reasonable health goals for you in the new year," said Thacker.

Your list could also include some healthy habits to implement into your lifestyle. Thacker says just be sure you put down attainable goals.
