A picture of a bunch of burrowing owls is turning into a real hoot on social media.

To celebrate International Owl Awareness Day, the Department of the Interior posted that picture on its Twitter feed Aug. 4, where it quickly piled up nearly 1,000 shares and 2,400 likes.

The agency then tweeted that picture again Sunday, saying it was the most popular image of the week. And it's easy to see why, whether it's their facial expressions or color-coordinated leg bands.

Taken at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in Utah, the picture shows how some of the smallest owls in North America react when threatened: They hiss!
