Cyber Monday sales soar

Sales are 18% above 2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Online sales for Cyber Monday were the highest the unofficial shopping holiday has ever had.

Total sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving -- which has been labeled Cyber Monday -- totaled $1.74 billion.

The day is designed to bolster online retailers three days after Black Friday.

Spending rose 18 percent from last year -- the top selling day since the online spending day began in 2001.

There were concerns Cyber Monday sales would not be as strong this year because retailers from Walmart to Amazon started rolling cyber deals at the beginning of November.  Those sales continued through Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
