Man Arrested 14 Months After Motel Slaying

Victim's Son Thanks Police For Solving Case

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – More than a year after a man was found dead in a St. Johns County hotel room, police have charged a man with murder.

Last May, Dan Lowe was stabbed to death in a room at the Lantern Lodge.

"It was an unusually senseless murder, the way it was described to be by the detective," said the victim's son, Dan Lowe Jr. "It was over some remarks made to the guy. He should have let it pass ... let it go."

St. Augustine police have arrested David Johnson, 46, after they said he provided information only the killer would know.

Police said that when confronted, Johnson confessed to killing Dan Lowe.

The Lowe family told Channel 4 they were grateful to the police for their persistence and solving the case.

"There were a lot of suspects, I think, because little was known about what happened," Dan Lowe Jr. said. "That was the biggest challenge for them. They did an excellent, excellent job at finding this guy."

Investigators said they believe Johnson acted alone and they are not searching for any other suspects.
