While professional artists are creating 40 larger-than-life sea turtles for a public art project to adorn Jacksonville in January, Channel 4 and the Child Guidance Center put out a call members of the community to submit potential designs for a turtle the local station is donating to the event.
Like the manatee and jaguars projects that have decorated the city in past years, the Turtle Trails project will place whimsically-designed fiberglass sea turtles throughout the area as a fundraiser.
The proceeds of sponsors and, ultimately an auction of the turtles, will help fund quality mental-health and social service, including foster car programs, for deserving children and their families.
After receiving 73 designs, the staff of the Child Guidance Center narrowed the field to four finalists, and Channel 4 is asking its viewers to make the final choice.
Scroll down and view the finalists, then vote for the one you think should be turned into reality.
Voting will be open through midnight Friday, Sept. 5.
The winner will receive a blank turtle sculpture to decorate with the winning design, along with a $750 honorarium.
