ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 36-year-old man serving a 25-year sentence for raping a Fernandina Beach woman is also facing charges he sexually assaulted a 75-year-old St. Augustine woman during a home invasion.
Dusty Lee Bowman was arrested in the Nassau County rape case in June 2007, six days after the St. Johns County crime.
According to police, Bowman broke into a home, held the woman against her will and raped her. He is also accused of killing her dog.
Detectives said Bowman was linked to the case by DNA evidence.
Bowman is charged with three counts of sexual battery, one count of burglary with battery, one count of false imprisonment and one count of animal cruelty.
Fernandina Beach police told Channel 4 that Bowman is also a person of interest in the 2007 slaying of a woman.
Bowman had previous arrests and convictions for aggravated burglary and domestic violence.
