Man Arrested, Accused Of Robbery At ATM

BUNNELL, Fla. – A 23-year-old Palm Coast man faces charges of strong armed robbery and resisting arrest in connection with a robbery at an ATM over the weekend.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said a 54-year-old man was making a withdrawal at the ATM outside the Publix store on Belle Terre Parkway around 7:45 Saturday night when Garrett Hopkins reached over him and snatched the money. Witnesses told deputies that Hopkins jumped into a waiting car, and left the scene. The victim made note of the car's license plate number, and deputies were able to trace the car to a home on Karas Trail in Palm Coast.

The sheriff's office said when deputies arrived at the home, Hopkins ran out the back door of the home, and a K-9 unit later found him hiding behind the house. Deputies then took him into custody.

Investigators identified the owner and driver of the car as April Brogan, 23. Brogan was not immediately taken into custody, but the sheriff's office did forward a charge of principal to strong armed robbery to the State Attorney's Office.

"The incident illustrates how important it is to take all precautions when using an ATM machine no matter where you are. The victim was calm enough to get the vehicle tag and that enabled us to locate the suspect," said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.
