ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – St. Johns County detectives are searching for a man who broke into an elderly woman's home early Monday morning, threatened her at knifepoint and demanded money.
Deputies responded to a report of a home-invasion robbery in the 1500 block of San Lucie Court at 2:30 a.m.
The 80-year-old victim said she woke up to find a man with a large knife standing over her. She said when she began to scream, the man gagged her. When he told her he wanted money, the victim retrieved her purse, which the robber grabbed and ran.
The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene by rescue personnel. A K-9 team tracked the robber to Old Beach Road and across A1A South before losing a scent.
The robber was described as a light-skinned black or tanned white man in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing a dark blue or black zippered hooded jacket with the hood pulled over his head, dark pants and dark gloves.
