Police: Glynn Student Caught With Knives

School Officer Found Weapons In Glynn Academy Senior's Backpack

A 17-year-old Glynn Academy senior was arrested Wednesday after two knives and a can of pepper spray were found inside his backpack, according to Glynn County school officials.

The weapons were discovered about noon when the student returned to campus and a school police officer suspected that the the student had contraband in the backpack.

The teenager was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon on school grounds. It was not immediately known why the student brought the weapons to school.

Because the student is 17, he is considered an adult under Georgia law, but school spokesman Jim Weidhaas said student privacy laws prevented him from releasing the boy's name.

School administrators immediately suspended the student for 10 days and he will go before a disciplinary tribunal to see if he should be expelled.
