2 Men Shot In Separate, Related Shootings

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Two men were shot in separate but related shootings Thursday night, Lake City police said.

Police were called to the the first shooting in the 300 block of Southeast Murray Terrace about 9:40 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the victim, 52-year-old Sonny Jenkins told them he had been robbed by a tall, white man wearing a multicolored scarf over his face and a hat.

Jenkins told police the robber went into his home and demanded prescription pills and money. Police said the robber then began to strike Jenkins, who was able to reach for his nearby pistol and fire at the robber.

Police said the first shot went through Jenkins' arm, and a second shot hit the suspect, who then fled.

Police said as officers arrived at that home, they were notified of another shooting at an apartment in the 900 block of Southeast Putnam Street, only a few blocks away.

Police said 20-year-old Ronald Vandevoren was shot in the shoulder by a man wearing all black and a black ski mask.

Vandevoren told police he was shot near a stop sign at Colburn and Putnam streets.

Both Jenkins and Vandevoren were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said they are still interviewing witnesses and consulting with the state attorney's office.
