"He shot the first one, that was a one-shooter. The second one just whelped real bad. My granddaughter and my other neighbor with us--they'd seen him put the dogs in a bag, and then put it in the back of his truck," Bennett told Channel 4.

According police, Stewart told the responding officers he dumped the dead dogs at Halsema Air Field. The arrest report said both dogs had been shot in the head.

When asked why he shot the dogs, Stewart told the officers because one was acting strange and he didn't know why he shot the second one.
