Putnam Man Charged With Attempted Rape

Deputies: Person Of Interest In Missing Woman Case Tried To Rape 25-Year-Old

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A man who's been named a person of interest in the disappearance of a missing St. Johns County woman last year was arrested in July in Putnam County on charges of battery and attempted sexual battery.

Timothy Johnson, 41, is accused of trying to rape a 25-year-old woman in San Mateo on July 6 in exchange for drugs.

The woman was able to escape from him when he was interrupted by her mother, Putnam County deputies said.

Johnson claims that what was going on was consensual, according to a police report.

Johnson was 34-year-old Rebecca Ware's boyfriend at the time of her disappearance in October.

Ware has not been seen or heard from since Oct. 29 when she left her workplace, Hydro Aluminum North America, in St. Augustine Shores.
