JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police and the Jacksonville Fire Rescue hazardous materials team have responded to a Westside home suspected of housing a methamphetamine lab.
Police were called to 5305 Quan Drive -- a home that is for sale in the Murray Hill Neighborhood.
According to police, a neighbor found a storage tote or container in the backyard. After opening it, police said, they found chemicals to make crystal meth.
Several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Also as a precaution, police called in the bomb squad to take away the chemicals, which can be explosive.
Police said no one has been arrested and no one was injured. They were trying to contact the owner of the house.
Neighborhood residents said they were surprised by what happened.
"This is a pretty quiet street and a quite neighborhood and has been for the past 20 or 30 years that I know of," said Buck Lucontro, whose parents live in the neighborhood. "I never suspect anything like that going on."
