Jax Beach July 4 Fireworks Show Eliminated
Money For Show Removed From City's Proposed Budget
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – The proposed Jacksonville Beach budget for 2012 has eliminated money for the Fourth of July fireworks show.
The show itself costs $25,000 to put on, although the city has received donations to help defray the costs.
The larger budget issue is the money that goes to police and public works preparing for, working and cleaning up after the fireworks show. That puts the total expense at about $80,000.
It's estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 people attend the show each year.
The city still expects a lot visitors on that holiday, but they won't be staying to watch fireworks anymore.
