Man In Custody After Shots Fired In Home
Parents Make It Out Of East Arlington Home Safely; Neighbors Evacuated
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ten families in the 12000 block of Woodsage Court were evacuated until the SWAT team could get an armed man out of an East Arlington home.
According to police, a son and his parents were inside the home when the shots were fired. The parents made it out of the house safely, but police said the son refused to come outside.
Neighbor Dallas Mooney said he heard about seven gunshots coming from the home about 5:30 a.m.
"A few minutes later, another, louder one. Then another one after that," Moody said. "I gathered my wife and son up to leave. ... I stepped outside and there were three or four cops in our front yard, guns drawn, using the side of our house for cover. So we figured we'd better go."
Channel 4's Emily Turner was told at least one shot was fired at officers, who used a Taser gun on the man before he was taken into custody.
Police said a rifle, shotgun and two handguns were found in the home.
The man is said to be about 38 years old and may have a history of mental illness.
Jacksonville Fire-Rescue's hazardous materials team was called to the home, but no information was available about what was found inside.
