Police Identify Person Of Interest In Palatka Shooting

PALATKA, Fla. – A 32-year-old Palatka businessman is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times at his business Thursday night.

Palatka police were called to Flowers by Louis in the 5000 block of Crill Avenue just after 8:30 p.m.

Police said they found Louis Howell III had been shot several times. Howell was taken to Putnam Community Hospital and then to Shands Medical Center in Gainesville. He was listed in critical condition on Friday.

Police said they found evidence of a struggle and evidence that the shooting took place at the business. They said they could not determine why the shooting took place, and a suspect has not been identified.

Police said Howell's vehicle, a 2004 white Nissan Maxima with Florida license plate 467HVE was not at the scene. Police said they suspect the car was taken by the shooter and has been listed as stolen.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in the case. Police said they're trying to find 20-year-old Robert Lee Williams. His last known residence was in Pomona Park, but he is known to frequent Palatka and other areas in north central Florida.
