Accident Closes I-295 North For Hours

Northbound I-295 Lanes Closed After 10:50 A.M. Wreck

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All northbound lanes of Interstate 295 near Old St. Augustine Road were closed for hours Sunday due to an accident involving a multiple vehicles, including a fire truck that was responding to the incident.

The original incident involving a vehicle that went over the side of I-295 occurred about 9:45 a.m. One northbound travel lane opened about 12:15 p.m. and all lanes were open by 2 p.m.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue spokesman John Bracey said three people were transported to Baptist Medical Center South with non-life-threatening injures after the original incident, and no firefighters were hurt when the fire truck was struck by another vehicle.

Drivers were urged to use alternative routes and told to expect delays near the I-295/I-95 merger on the Southside.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the original accident. This story will be updated when details of the wreck and names of those involved are released.
