JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Republican Party of Florida and CNN's nationally-televised debate to originate from Jacksonville has been set for Jan. 26 -- five days before the Florida presidential primary.

The move ensures Florida voters will hear directly from the Republican presidential contenders just before the state's Jan. 31 primary. A venue for the Jacksonville debate has not been named.

"CNN and RPOF are going to make this debate the best opportunity for our presidential candidates to continue their dialogue with Floridians," said party Chairman Lenny Curry. "With a date exactly halfway between the South Carolina and Florida primary dates, this debate will be the must-attend event for this great field of Republicans."

Over the past three months, there have been televised GOP debates in Tampa and Orlando. The Republican National Convention will be held in Tampa next summer.
