PALATKA, Fla. – A man initially named a person of interest in the shooting of a Palatka businessman is now charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence.
Palatka police said they discovered evidence to indicate that 20-year-old Robert Williams, of Pomona Park, tried to rob 32-year-old Louis Howell III at gunpoint and, during the robbery, shot Howell several times.
Investigators said they learned that Williams and Howell knew each other prior to the shooting.
Police said that the night of the shooting, the two men were together at the florist shop in the 5000 block of Crill Avenue, where the robbery and shooting happened.
Police said Williams fled the scene in Howell's car and eventually turned himself in Saturday.
Williams was initially arrested on grand theft charges, and his charges were upgraded Wednesday. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail without bail.
Louis was last said to be in critical condition.
