2 accused of robbing Hastings man
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Two Hastings men were arrested Thursday on charges of robbery with a firearm and grand theft Thursday stemming from an incident that occurred two weeks ago.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Delvin Devonte Wells, 18, and Eric Purnell Gilyard Jr., 19, 702 Hensley Street, are accused of robbing a 44-year old Hastings as he walked with a cane on First Street early the morning of March 2.
A small amount of cash was taken from the victim, as well as a handgun. The two
fled the area.
According to the Sheriff's Office, shortly before the robbery, the two men were questioned by Deputy William Lennon Jr. who was searching for a retail theft suspect and recognized the two from previous encounters. While the deputy determined that the two were not involved in the store theft, when he returned after the victim reported the robbery, his description matched that of Gilyard and Wells. They were booked into the County Jail and held on $55,000 bond.
The victim was not injured during the robbery.
