ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – A prisoner scheduled for release in 2016 escaped on St. Simon's Island Tuesday, police said.
Glynn County police said Coty Benefield walked away from a work detail on the island while he was cleaning ditches.

Benefield was serving time for burglary, police said.
