Wendy's No. 2 In Fast Food Sales

Beat Burger King

New numbers show Wendy's is quickly moving up the fast food chain.

The burger chain recently edged out Burger King in sales, according to research group Technomic, Incorporated.

This is the first time the company has topped Burger King's sales since it was founded in 1969.

Wendy's made $8.5 billion in the U.S. last year.

However, the chain is still far behind the No. 1 restaurant, McDonald's. That company made more than $34 billion in sales last year.

Those numbers are based on sales estimates from individual franchises. The study did not look at corporate revenue, because the company collects fees from franchises.

The full report will be released sometime next month.
