Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized with serious injuries Friday night after he was hit by a vehicle that left the scene, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police responded to a hit-and-run call at the intersection of Moncrief Road and W.  18th Street just before 10 p.m.  Sgt. T. K. Waters said officers found the victim bleeding in the road.  The man was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

As of early Saturday, the man's name and age were unknown.

Police received a call of shots fired in the same area shortly before the hit-and-run, but it's unclear if the two incidents are related, Waters said.

Waters said investigators don't have a description of the vehicle that fled the scene or any suspects at this time, but the investigation was continuing.
