Tebow attracts celebs, athletes to golf tournament

Gala, golf tournament to benefit Tim Tebow Foundation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The stars were out in Ponte Vedra Beach Friday night at a gala raising money with Jacksonville's own Tim Tebow, celebrating the Tim Tebow Foundation's second annual celebrity golf tournament this weekend.

Among those joining the New York Jets quarterback on the red carpet were newly-minted Masters champion Bubba Watson, Buffalo Bills player Shawne Merriman and American Idol star Jordan Sparks.

"It's always exciting to come back here and be able to host my celebrity foundation here and have a golf tournament," Tebow said. "This gala's very exciting for me."

Merriman, an outside linebacker for the Bills, said it wasn't difficult to get him to the event.

"One text message or phone call from Tim and I was gonna be here," Merriman said.

Watson expressed similar sentiments.

"I'm honored to be here for him," he said. "Great hero, great champion in Tim Tebow. Why would I not be here?"

Tebow didn't say much on the recent Jaguars-Jets drama and whether or not Jacksonville fans showed any bitterness toward him. He said New York has been treating him well.

"Haven't been there too long, four days or so," Tebow said. "Looking forward to getting back there Sunday."
