Bridge of Lions reopens after malfunction

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Bridge of Lions reopened early Monday afternoon after being closed to traffic so officials could work out a problem with the traffic gates.

The bridge went up for its regular 10:30 a.m. opening, and when it locked down to let traffic pass, the traffic gates would not go back up, officials said.

Florida Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews were able to fix the problem.

The bridge was closed for nearly two hours.
