Firefighters burn 2,000 acres to remove fuel from fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters battling the County Line Fire in Columbia County were strategically burning some of the brush that's fueling the massive fire Monday.

The fire has grown to nearly 35,000 acres and is now 65 percent contained.

Firefighters were burning about 2,000 acres within the containment lines to remove that fuel from the fire, mostly in the southwest section of the fire.

Officials said the burn would not increase the acreage of the fire, located on the Baker-Columbia County border.

Fire officials said weather conditions would push smoke into rural Georgia Monday afternoon and evening, which could make it difficult to see and drive.

Drivers should slow down, turn on low beams and obey any advisories, officials said.
