Green Cove Springs cancels boil water notice

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – The city of Green Cove Springs issued a precautionary boil water notice Saturday after E. coli bacteria were found in a test sample.  The order was cancelled on Sunday morning after additional tests were negative.

City officials originally said the E. coli was found in one of its five ground water wells, however, each well is treated with chlorine before it is pumped into the distribution system that serves homes and businesses.

As a precaution, the city recommended bringing water to a rolling boil for one minute, and allowing it to cool before using for drinking, making ice, preparing food and washing dishes. They also recommend using bottled water.
