Men rob beauty shop of $8,600 in hair weave, extensions

Robbers sought by police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are looking for two men who they said robbed a beauty shop of about $8,600 in hair weave and extensions.

Employees at Beauty Max on West Edgewood Avenue on the Northside said the robbers walked into the store at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, and one of the men pointed a gun at their heads while the other filled up a black plastic bag with as many hair extensions and weave as he possibly could.

Jacksonville police say the items can be very expensive, which explains why the men would take rob a store for them.

The employees said they're traumatized by what happened, especially because the men are still on the loose.

"They actually went into the store, went to the employee in an aisle, put the gun on her and made her get on the ground," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said.

The employees said the robbers were wearing T-shirts, bright safety vests, hard hats and bandanas to cover their faces.

Salon owner Lisa Harden said she sends her clients to Beauty Max, and she was in shock at how much the robbers made away with.

"That much money worth of hair? Yes, it's real crazy," Harden said. "I can't imagine. It's sad at the same time."

"We're asking the public if they know anyone who's in possession of a very large quantity of hair weave to contact the Sheriff's Office," Bujeda said. "Anything that might have happened, seen something, anything out of the ordinary, you drive in a car with someone and they have a lot of hair weave, call police."

If you have any information about the robbers' identities or whereabouts or you suspect someone may be trying to sell the stolen merchandise, call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
