Body found in car in Westside pond

Woman gets out alive, questioned by police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police said a car with a body inside was found in a retention pond early Saturday after a neighbor called 911.

Detectives with Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the Island Club Apartments at 7101 Wilson Blvd. shortly after 6 a.m.

Police said the car was completely submerged. A man's body was discovered when divers began their search underwater. The man's age or identity weren't released Saturday morning. Officers said a woman who was also in the vehicle was able to get out safely.

Police had not yet determined what kind of car was in the pond, or how it got there.

Detectives said they were still questioning the woman, who was very shaken up, to try and find out what happened.

They said foul play was not suspected, but the investigation was ongoing.
