DCF investigates 9-month-old boy's drowning in bathtub

Investigators: Father left child unattended while getting gas can

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Nassau County Sheriff's Office and Department of Children and Families are investigating the drowning death of a 9-month-old boy.

Investigators said the baby drowned Tuesday in a bathtub in a home on Marlee Road in the Callahan area.

Investigators said the baby and a 2-year-old sibling were being given a bath by their father. They said he removed the 2-year-old from the tub and left the baby unattended while he went to get a gasoline can for his brother, who had come by the house to borrow the gas can.

When the father returned, the baby had drowned, investigators said.

The case is being reviewed by the state attorney's office.
