Amelia Island State Park temporarily closed for shorebirds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Amelia Island State Park is temporarily diverting vehicular, equestrian and pedestrian traffic from a portion of the shoreline due to the presence of nesting shorebirds with chicks.

The birds are nesting in the dune areas on the south end of the park and utilizing the nearby shoreline. Officials said the protected areas are marked with signs.

Park staff said they will monitor the area daily for changes to nesting areas and adjust the temporary closures as necessary.

The back driving corridor that provides access to the breakwater at the north end of the park remains open. The water in front of closed areas will also remain open.
