TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is speaking out against his successor, Rick Scott, fueling speculation that Crist may run for governor again in 2014.
Last week, Crist wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post criticizing Scott's policy to remove voters from the rolls.
"What I find troubling is that there seems to be active suppression," said Crist.
The piece is fueling speculation that Crist might try to return to the Governor's mansion as a Democrat. The op-ed piece produced a tweet Sunday from Lenny Curry, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, who wrote: "The 2 faces of Charlie Crist. One is what he says, one is what he does. Stay tuned."
Kristen McDonald, spokesperson for the Republican Party of Florida, called Crist unpredictable.
"Well, as Charlie Crist has proven time and again, trying to guess what he's going to do is pretty fruitless," said McDonald.
Ron Sachs, a public relations specialist, said the problem for Democrats is there's few choices to run for governor.
"Well, I think Charlie Crist could be viable. Public opinion polls show he could be viable in a statewide race," said Sachs.
Democrat strategist Screven Watson agrees.
"We have a governor who's got awful polling numbers, and there's no other Democrats talking about running," said Watson.
Despite Scott's sagging poll numbers, Democrats expect Scott to raise $100 million for his reelection.
Crist is currently registered to vote as an Independent. State law requites candidates to be a member of the party which they'd be running with for at least a year before qualifying begins, meaning Crist would have to become a Democrat by next June.
