2 arrested after shooting, police chase
LAKE CITY, Fla. – Two men were arrested after a police chase that followed a shooting Friday night, according to the Lake City Police Department.
When an officer responded to a report of someone shot the Wayne Drive Apartments about 6:30 p.m., residents directed him to a shooting victim. The resident also pointed to a vehicle leaving the scene, saying, "That's them."
Carlos Williams, 31, was transported to the hospital from the scene, but later died due to his gunshot wounds.
Police said two men later identified as La'Quanza Gee, 28, of Live Oak, and Leonard Goodman, 32, of Jacksonville, ran to the neighboring complex, Greentree Apartments, where they carjacked a person at gunpoint and sped away.
An officer took off after Gee and Goodman, following them through Lake City at about 40 mph until they reached the city limits, when Columbia County deputies joined the pursuit.
When the car turned off Old Country Club Road onto S.E. Lanvale Street, the deputies managed to run Gee and Goodman off the road and into a fence.
They were not injured in the crash and taken into custody.
Police said they discovered a bag of cocaine with an estimated value of $20,000 in the car.
Police said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was assisting in the investigation and charges against Gee and Goodman are pending.
