ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A man was arrested Monday morning for stabbing his father Sunday following an argument, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Chad Akers, 21, was arrested at his father's home on Plantation Oaks Boulevard shortly after midnight.

The suspect's father, David Akers, 45, reported both were drinking beer when they got into a verbal altercation, according to the police report. The altercation turned physical and Chad Akers stabbed his father in the stomach, according to the Sheriff's Office.

David Akers described the knife as a switchblade attached to a pair of brass knuckles.

After the stabbing, Chad Akers left with two females who were also at the home, according to the arrest report.

Officers responded to the suspect's home in Jacksonville. His mother allowed the officers inside, Clay County investigators said. Officers located a brass knuckle-type knife and bloody clothing in the suspect's bedroom, according to the police report.

Chad Akers was taken into custody. His father was transported to Orange Park Medical Center in serious condition and is expected to recover.
