Man gets 30 years for trying to kill 2 people

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old Interlachen man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for shooting and trying to kill two people.

Carlos Torres was convicted in June of two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.

Prosecutors said that in August 2011, Torres went to the victims' home and an argument began. They said Torres shot at Thomas Douglas and his girlfriend, Renee Briggs.

Briggs was shot in the abdomen. Torres missed Douglas.

Torres faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years, which means he is not eligible for early release during that time.
