JSO motorcycle officer, 45, dies

16-year veteran to be laid to rest Monday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville motorcycle officer died earlier this week, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Friday.

Douglas Parsons, 45, who worked as a traffic officer, died Monday from natural causes at his home.

Parsons served seven years with the United States Navy and had a distinguished 16-year career with JSO.

He will be laid to rest Monday. Services will be held at North Jacksonville Baptist Church located at 8531 N. Main St. at 12:30 p.m. Parsons will then be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road at 2:30 p.m.

"Officer Parsons' untimely death is a tragic reminder that our time together is precious," JSO said in a news release. "He was a beloved husband and father, as well as a respected law enforcement professional and friend to many. His passing is a loss to this city, our agency and many of us personally. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and Doug's many colleagues and friends in our JSO family. Please join us as we keep the Parsons family in our prayers."
