Seminole deputy hit by taxi after pursuit, crash
Deputy suffers leg injury; 1 arrested, 1 sought in burglaries
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A Seminole County sheriff's deputy directing traffic after a pursuit and crash was injured when a taxi cab struck him, authorities said.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was hit near Wymore and Sandspur roads when the cab driver slammed on his brakes after not seeing the deputy, officials said. The deputy was taken to a hospital with a leg injury, but he's expected to be OK.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, deputies were responding to a business alarm after two liquor stores, a Winn-Dixie in Heathrow and Liquor 2000 in Lake Mary, were burglarized.
Deputies said they came upon a burglary in progress at EZ Liquor, at State Road 46 and Upsala Road in Sanford, and two men fled in a work van.
A pursuit began down Interstate 4 and Stop Sticks were deployed, but the driver of the van continued before crashing into a tree near Maitland Boulevard.
One of the culprits was found hiding in a box truck and was arrested, but the other remains on the loose.
