Troopers said 27-year-old Corey Hill turned left off U.S. 1 onto Seville Street, right into the path of another car. Shawne Butler Jr., 24, a passenger in Hill's car, was killed in the crash.

Another one of the passengers in the car that Hill was driving ended up with serious injuries and was taken to Halifax Medical Center, where he is expected to survive, troopers said.

Troopers said after the accident, Hill jumped out of his car and ran off.

Law enforcement was able to locate Hill and he was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident that caused a death and for having a suspended license, troopers said.

Hill was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
